Torn from the sea
2025

It is a scream that asks for no permission.
It is a body that celebrates.
And it burns.
This contemporary dance piece springs from the vital pulse of mapalé, evoked and transfigured into a stage act of resistance, connection with nature, and celebration of life.
The work arises from the impulse to shake off the imposed layers that distance the body from its truth, while simultaneously paying tribute to Afro-descendant roots, where movement has historically been a tool of liberation and perseverance.
On stage, the body becomes fish, drum, and territory.
It vibrates, fights, rejoices.
Through the ritual of movement, this dance invites a reconnection with nature, memory, and the possibility of inhabiting life from a freer, wilder, more authentic place.
