Collective me

2024

Rhyta Luz

What does it mean to belong to a place? To become part of its pulse, its struggles, its hopes?

A collaboration between Cora Dance Festival and the Festival delle Periferie in Taranto.

In Collective Me, choreographer Rhyta Luz takes us on a journey through the layered complexities of collective identity and the regeneration of urban spaces. Set against the backdrop of Taranto’s peripheries, the performance delves into the dynamic relationship between community, memory, and the physical environment. Through movement, the dancer embody the forces of change and continuity—how a place reshapes its inhabitants, and how the people shape the place in return.

The work examines how identity, both individual and collective, is influenced by the spaces we inhabit, particularly in the context of post-industrial urban regeneration. The performer interact with the space, illustrating how personal stories intertwine within the broader narrative of urban transformation. The choreography, blending contemporary dance with elements of street culture, reflects the vibrancy, tension, and resilience of a community in constant flux.

Collective Me is not just a performance; it is a call to reflect on the ongoing process of regeneration—physical, social, and emotional. It celebrates the strength found in unity and the power of transformation, while acknowledging the challenges of rebuilding both the city and the self.
