SOFT THRESHOLD

Leila Marie Patzies is a Berlin-based dancer, choreographer and teacher, trained at Iwanson International in Munich, Varium in Barcelona and CobosMika Seeds in Girona. From autumn 2026, she will be studying for a Master’s in Choreography at the Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH). Her practice is based on improvisation, somatic research and interdisciplinary collaboration. Choreographies such as „A Space InBetween“, „A Religious Mating“ and „Why Death Was Just Death“ have been performed internationally; 2025-2026 she has also been a solo performer in Judith Sánchez Ruíz’s „Portrait of an Anti-Hero“. This is her third year returning to CORA Dance Festival.

Patrick Tjorven Stein is a Berlin-based freelance photographer working across portrait, landscape, and reportage, as well as a videographer focused on documentary and dance film.His photographic work has appeared in Stern and SLEEK Magazine, and he has collaborated with clients such as DIESEL and Rimowa. Alongside his practice, he is pursuing a Master's degree in European Media Studies, bringing a research-driven perspective to his visual work. He is currently developing a documentary project on Taranto that examines industrial transformation and urban identity.

Patrick and Leila's collaboration began in 2023, when he documented her Dachverband Tanz-funded research on group coherence and dancer rehabilitation, and has since made him a key visual partner in her creative process. With Soft Threshold, the two step into new territory as Patrick takes on the role of director for the first time. We run measured, priced, ranked, mistaking pause for failure and burnout for fuel. Against hard borders, the piece offers a soft threshold: an edge that yields and resists, open enough to grow rather than harden into stone.
